| Geomorphology : Du point de vue géomorphologique, la Seine a creusé son lit au sein de la craie sénonienne du bassin parisien. Human activities : En plus de la navigation, traditionnellement trois activités étaient présentes: la chasse, y compris sur le domaine public fluvial, la pêche et l'agriculture, notamment le pastoralisme sur les îles. Ces deux dernières activités ont très largement régressé. Par contre l'activité de navigation se développe et avec elle les risques d'aménagements et d'artificialisation.
