Descriptif officiel

Infralittoral rock habitats, subject to disturbance through mobility of the substratum (boulders or cobbles) or abrasion/covering by nearby coarse sediments or suspended particulate matter (sand). The associated communities can be quite variable in character, depending on the particular conditions, which prevail. The typical Laminaria hyperborea and red seaweed communities of stable open coast rocky habitats (A3.21) are replaced by those, which include more ephemeral species or those tolerant of sand and gravel abrasion. As such Laminaria saccharina, Saccorhiza polyschides or Halidrys siliquosa may be prominant components of the community.

Milieux rocheux de l’infralittoral, susceptibles d’être perturbés par la mobilité du substrat (blocs ou galets), ou encore par l’abrasion ou le recouvrement par les sédiments grossiers présents à proximité ou par des particules en suspension (sable). Les biocénoses correspondantes peuvent être très variées, selon les conditions spécifiques qui prévalent. Les biocénoses typiques de Laminaria hyperborea et d’algues rouges des milieux rocheux stables des côtes ouvertes (A3.21) sont remplacées par des biocénoses qui peuvent comporter des espèces plus éphémères ou qui tolèrent l’abrasion par le sable et le gravier. Ainsi, Saccharina latissima (anciennement Laminaria saccharina), Saccorhiza polyschides ou Halidrys siliquosa peuvent constituer des composantes marquantes de la biocénose.

Remarques

There is a certain degree of duplication among some habitat classes in the EUNIS system coming either from BioMar or the Barcelona or HELCOM classifications. Therefore this means that all level 4 definitions (presently based on BioMar and Barcelona) should be checked, and given a new name if necessary. The biogeographic details are to be addressed in level 5 habitats.
