Taille : 7 à 12 mm
Identification :
Espèce très luisante. Extrémité des protibias tronquée droit au sommet. Elytres noirs avec sur chacun deux taches rouges.
Confusion possible :
Aucune. Seule espèce française du genre Caccobius.
Périodes d’observation de l’adulte :
Espèce active de la fin du printemps au début de l’automne.
Biologie-éthologie :
L’espèce privilégie les habitats bien exposés du niveau de la mer à 1500 m d’altitude, parfois plus haut. C’est un insecte très commun qui exploite toute sorte d’excrément animal et même humain.
Biogéographie :
Toute la France – Corse.
