Taille : 3,5-5 mm
Diagnose :
Corps en ovale court, très convexe, glabre, très luisant, de coloration très variable. La forme typique a les élytres brun-orange avec 10 petites taches noires rondes sur chaque élytre. D'autres formes ont les élytres brun-noir ou testacés avec des taches crème d'étendue variable ou élytres noirs avec une tache humérale orangée. Les appendices sont testacés. Les antennes dépassent peu la base du pronotum et se terminent par une massue de 3 articles peu marquée. Le pronotum est très transverse, de couleur variable, à ponctuation fine et peu dense, à base nettement plus étroite que les élytres. Les élytres ont un pli transversal plus ou moins accentué avant l'apex qui est arrondi.
Identification :
Très difficile compte tenu de la grande variété de coloration.
Confusions possibles :
A. bipunctata n'a pas de pli transversal avant l'apex élytral. Coccinula quatuordecimpustulata a des taches jaunes sur fond noir.
Périodes d'observation (adultes) :
Avril à octobre.
Biologie-éthologie :
La larve et l'adulte sont aphidiphages. Les adultes se rencontrent sur les arbres et les buissons.
Biogéographie-écologie :
Milieux ouverts de toute l'Europe.
