Mission and objectives

The INPN, a knowledge dissemination platform for natural heritage

The INPN portal ensures the development of a national reference bank on French biodiversity and geodiversity by disseminating the information produced by various national programmes.

The objectives of the INPN portal are to:

  • disseminate national data for natural heritage (species, habitats, areas);
  • ensure the development of a national reference database for French biodiversity, allowing for consistency between data with diverse origins;
  • deliver consolidated information on subjects relating to biodiversity conservation with robust validation processes: repartition and knowledge bases (presentation of species and habitats, iconography, etc.);
  • allow the appraisal of shortcomings and needs regarding inventories and the monitoring of biodiversity;
  • produce summaries on the evolution of biodiversity and geodiversity;
  • contribute to national and international reporting (Common database on designated areas, community reports on the directives on the conservation of natural habitats of wild Fauna and Flora and wild Birds, etc.).
