Punaise rouge aux pattes noires avec des motifs noirs variables sur le pronotum et les cories. Les motifs relativement constants sont les bords latéraux de l'abdomen rouges, des membranes noires, la tête qui est rouge et noire, le bord antérieur du pronotum qui est surligné de rouge et donc d'une bande noire derrière, et le scutellum noir qui est encadré de rouge sur les cories.

Espèces proches :
Bien que variable, on la distingue facilement des autres punaises rouges et noires qui ont des taches blanches sur leurs membranes, et de Spilostethus saxatilis et Tropidothorax leucopterus qui ont les bords de l'abdomen alternativement rouge et noir.
Période d'observation :
Toute l'année avec plus d'observations en février et septembre.
Biologie-éthologie :
Cette punaise a une préférence pour les plantes de la famille des Malvaceae : elle s'attaque aux plantations de coton en Afrique et en Asie tropicales. Elle a été signalée sur d'autres Malvaceae comme le jute du Congo ou le jute blanc, mais elle semble toutefois polyphage car on la rencontre sur d'autres cultures notamment sur Pois sabre blanc (Fabaceae) ou le sorgho commun (Poaceae) ou d'autres plantes comme la rose des bois (Convolvulaceae).
Biogéographie et écologie :
Espèce subtropicale largement répandue sur le vieux continent, dans toute l'Afrique intertropicale, Afrique du Sud, Madagascar et en Asie, Arabie, Inde, Chine, Japon, Asie du Sud-Est, Nouvelle-Guinée, Australie. En zone méditerranéenne, cette espèce est rencontrée dans les pays sur le pourtour thermo-méditerranéen où elle est assez rare.

search of species incomplete but presence of supportive environments;
ecology of the species consistent with the hypothesis of his presence;
the last reliable sighting is older than 10 years compared to the reference date, no recent specific research and no presumption of extinction from that date [vertebrates, invertebrates and plants well studied (rhopalocera, grasshoppers, dragonflies ...)] ;
the last reliable observation being older than 20 years, no recent specific research and no presumption of extinction from that date [poorly known taxa: fungus, many invertebrates...].
Probable or certain absence
This point covers the absence, more difficult by nature to demonstrate than presence. This status is based on one or more of the following criteria:
intensive but unsuccessful targeted research;
lack of adequate environments;
unobserved species while its presence is easily detected;
