Taille :
Mâle 15-17 mm, femelle 19-22 mm.
Diagnose :
Corps allongé, convexe, entièrement brun rougeâtre foncé. La pubescence brune, fine et courte est peu visible. Les antennes longues et dentées à partir du 3ème article dépassent de trois articles le bord postérieur du pronotum qui est peu convexe, transverse avec les angles postérieurs carénés en longue pointe droite. La ponctuation du pronotum est fine et dense. Les pattes sont brun foncé. La femelle est plus large avec les antennes fortement dentées qui n'atteignent pas le bord postérieur du pronotum.
La larve est filiforme et cylindrique (de type "ver fil-de-fer"), jaune orangée avec la tête et le dernier segment plus colorés.
Identification : Assez difficile.
Confusions possibles :
H. hirtus est plus petit avec une pubescence claire bien visible.
Périodes d'observation (adultes) : Mai à août.
Biologie-éthologie :
La larve se développe dans le bois carié des feuillus. Les adultes sortent au crépuscule, le mâle vole à la recherche des femelles qui se tiennent au sol ou sur les herbes.
Biogéographie-écologie :
Forêts de moyenne altitude du sud-ouest des Alpes.

The map presents a summary at the 10 x 10 km grid of the observation data for the species transmitted to the SINP. These data have been subjected to validation filters.
The map presents a reference distribution layer of the species at the scale of departments and marine sectors. The presence and absence data were established by expertise within a network of partners. This reference distribution is used in the validation process of the SINP data at the INPN level.
Corresponds to a report on the basis of at least one observation proved within a period of 10 years (20 years for little-known invertebrates) preceding the year and no presumption of extinction since obtaining the last data nor doubt on reproductive and implemented nature of this population. For migratory species, the presence indicated concerns areas of reproduction.
