Le recto de l'aile antérieure possède une variété de tonalités jaunes, orangées et rougeâtres. Il est traversé par de nombreuses lignes parallèles coudées, avec, entre ces dernières, une alternance de nuances claires et sombres ; la ligne submarginale est surlignée, au moins sur le premier tiers, par une ligne blanche ; l'aire marginale est souvent éclaircie, blanchâtre ; A l'apex, une ligne oblique blanche souligne une tache demi-sphérique de couleur orange-rougeâtre. Le dessus des ailes postérieures est blanc crème avec une ligne grise diffuse et une bande marginale brun-grisâtre.
Détermination :
L'adulte est simple de détermination.
Espèces proches :
En France métropolitaine, l'espèce est caractéristique, mais elle peut parfois être confondue avec d'autres espèces du genre Eulithis, notamment certaines formes d'Eulithis populata (Cidarie du Peuplier).
Période d’observation :
Les adultes volent de mi-juillet à mi-septembre.
Biologie-éthologie :
Cette espèce a une génération par an. L'imago s'observe de jour comme de nuit. Polyphage, la chenille se développe aux dépens de Vaccinium spp., Calluna spp., Salix spp., Populus tremula, Betula spp. etc. C'est au stade de l'œuf qu'Eulithis testata hiverne.
Biogéographique et écologie :
Holarctique, cette géomètre est présente de l'Irlande jusqu'en Fennoscandie, puis plus au sud, au-dessus d'une ligne qui s'étire des Pyrénées françaises jusqu'au nord de l’Ukraine. Hors Europe on l'observe de la Sibérie jusqu'en Chine, en Corée et au Japon puis en Amérique du Nord, de l'Alaska à l'ouest du Colorado jusqu'à terre Neuve, New Jersey. La Cidarie agate est présente dans de nombreux milieux comme les tourbières, les marais, les boisements clairs, les landes à Callune et à Bruyère, etc. Elle se rencontre de l'étage collinéen à montagnard.

Current distribution in metropolitan France

Certain presence
Corresponds to a report on the basis of at least one observation proved within a period of 10 years (20 years for little-known invertebrates) preceding the year and no presumption of extinction since obtaining the last data nor doubt on reproductive and implemented nature of this population. For migratory species, the presence indicated concerns areas of reproduction.
Probable presence
This status is based on one or more of the following criteria:
search of species incomplete but presence of supportive environments;
ecology of the species consistent with the hypothesis of his presence;
the last reliable sighting is older than 10 years compared to the reference date, no recent specific research and no presumption of extinction from that date [vertebrates, invertebrates and plants well studied (rhopalocera, grasshoppers, dragonflies ...)] ;
the last reliable observation being older than 20 years, no recent specific research and no presumption of extinction from that date [poorly known taxa: fungus, many invertebrates...].
Probable or certain absence
This point covers the absence, more difficult by nature to demonstrate than presence. This status is based on one or more of the following criteria:
intensive but unsuccessful targeted research;
lack of adequate environments;
unobserved species while its presence is easily detected;
unlikely presence for historical or biogeographical reasons.
This status must be assigned to a department in which the presence of the species is casual.
Absence due to a proven extinction
Particular case of absence due to a proven extinction less than a half century ago (older disappearances are treated as "no probable or definite").

In the state of knowledge, we can not comment on the presence or absence in the current department. This is the default status when not comprised in one of the previous categories or whenever there is doubt.
