La couleur de fond des ailes et du corps est brun-grisâtre avec une suffusion d'écailles sombres ; franges bicolores et délimitées par une ligne discontinue foncée. Dessus de l'aile antérieure traversée par de fines lignes doubles peu visibles, la ligne post-basale est relativement droite, la ligne post-discale est quant à elle incurvée au niveau de la tache discale et la ligne submarginale est empâtée et dentée ; tache discale noire allongée ; aire marginale et côte envahies d'écailles sombres. Le recto de l'aile postérieure est traversé par des lignes diffuses et indistinctes ; point discal rond discret et aire marginale envahie d'un semi d'écailles sombres.
Détermination :
L'adulte est assez difficile à déterminer.
Espèces proches :
En France métropolitaine, l'espèce peut être confondue avec d'autres espèces d'Eupithecia.
Période d'observation :
Les adultes sont observés de mi-mai à début juillet.
Biologie-éthologie :
Cette espèce a une génération par an. Les papillons volent de nuit. Monophage, la chenille se nourrit des fleurs de Tilia spp., avec une préférence pour le pistil et les étamines. C'est au stade de chrysalide que l'espèce hiverne.
Biogéographique et écologie :
Euro-caucasienne, Eupithecia egenaria se rencontre du nord-ouest de l'Espagne au sud de la Grande-Bretagne puis à travers l'Europe centrale, le sud de la Scandinavie jusqu'à l'Oural et le Caucase. Espèce thermophile, elle affectionne les boisements de feuillus et les lisières des forêts. Elle se rencontre à l'étage collinéen, sa limite étant vers 800 mètres d'altitude dans les Alpes.

Corresponds to a report on the basis of at least one observation proved within a period of 10 years (20 years for little-known invertebrates) preceding the year and no presumption of extinction since obtaining the last data nor doubt on reproductive and implemented nature of this population. For migratory species, the presence indicated concerns areas of reproduction.
Probable presence
This status is based on one or more of the following criteria:
search of species incomplete but presence of supportive environments;
ecology of the species consistent with the hypothesis of his presence;
the last reliable sighting is older than 10 years compared to the reference date, no recent specific research and no presumption of extinction from that date [vertebrates, invertebrates and plants well studied (rhopalocera, grasshoppers, dragonflies ...)] ;
the last reliable observation being older than 20 years, no recent specific research and no presumption of extinction from that date [poorly known taxa: fungus, many invertebrates...].
Probable or certain absence
This point covers the absence, more difficult by nature to demonstrate than presence. This status is based on one or more of the following criteria:
intensive but unsuccessful targeted research;
lack of adequate environments;
unobserved species while its presence is easily detected;
unlikely presence for historical or biogeographical reasons.
This status must be assigned to a department in which the presence of the species is casual.
Absence due to a proven extinction
Particular case of absence due to a proven extinction less than a half century ago (older disappearances are treated as "no probable or definite").
