Taille : 7 – 9 mm
Diagnose :Petite punaise jaune verdâtre à brune avec les pattes jaunes à vertes. Les bords de son abdomen (connexivum) sont bicolores alternativement noir et jaune. Une tache noire est souvent présente sur toute la moitié antérieure du scutellum. Les angles huméraux du pronotum plus larges que l'abdomen ne forment pas de pointes acérées. Les antennes sont claires (sauf le dernier article) et la face ventrale n'est pas ponctuée de noir. Les épines aux angles antérieurs du pronotum sont absentes ou d'une taille inférieure au diamètre de l'œil.
Détermination : Moyennement difficile.
Espèces proches :Cette espèce est proche d'Elasmucha fieberi. On la distingue par la couleur des antennes, entièrement noires chez cette espèce qui possède des petites épines derrière les yeux, aussi grandes que le diamètre de l'œil. D'autre part, la face ventrale d'E. grisea n'est pas ponctuée de noir.
Période d'observation : Avril à novembre avec deux pics en juin et septembre.
Biologie-éthologie :Espèce arboricole vivant principalement sur le bouleau, l'aulne, le noisetier, et d'autres arbres dont le charme, le chêne pédonculé, le hêtre, le peuplier, des saules.
Comme les autres Elasmucha, la femelle protège ses œufs contre les prédateurs et les parasites en restant immobile en permanence sur sa ponte comme si elle la couvait. Elle protège ensuite ses larves de la même façon au moins jusqu'au 3e stade.
Biogéographie et écologie :Espèce eurosibérienne commune dans son biotope, présente jusqu'à 64° de latitude nord. À l'est, on la rencontre jusqu'à l'océan Pacifique en Sibérie. Elle est plus rare dans l'aire méditerranéenne. On la rencontre dans les lisières forestières humides, les bords de rivières, clairières, landes claires et dans les jardins.
