Morphologie : Chez la munidopsis abyssale, la carapace porte quelques épines gastriques, le rostre ne présente pas de paire d'épines latérales, et le 6e segment abdominal est muni d'un lobe postéro-médian bien développé qui dépasse les lobes latéraux. Les pédoncules oculaires sont courts et possèdent une épine oculaire sur l'extrémité mésiale. Le doigt fixe des pinces n'a pas de carène denticulée sur la marge distolatérale. La première paire de pattes ambulatoires dépasse l'extrémité des pinces et le dactyle des pattes ne présente pas de crètes sur les faces mésiales ou latérales. Il n'y a aucun épipode sur les pinces et les pattes. La longueur peut atteindre 34 mm (mâle), et 44 mm (femelle).
Biologie : La biologie de cette espèce n'est pas connue.
Ecologie & distribution : M. abyssicola est une espèce abyssale très rare que l'on trouve en Atlantique profond dans le golfe de Gascogne entre -4.152 et -4.670 m de profondeur. Elle a été décrite en 2005 à partir d'une femelle ovigère récoltée dans le Pacifique sud ouest.
