Caractères distinctifs, espèces
Taille - femelle : 5-8 mm, mâle : 5-7 mm.
L'aspect général des araignées-lynx est typique, avec un céphalothorax élevé dans la région oculaire, les yeux disposés en cercle, l'abdomen ovale, fortement pointu vers l'arrière et des pattes munies de très longues épines en bagues. Actuellement, il y a 5 espèces d'araignées-lynx répertoriées en France. Leurs distinctions s'effectuent en partie d'après leur coloration, qui est celle des soies écailleuses qui recouvrent leur corps, et plus surement en observant les pièces génitales.

L'espèce O. heterophtalmus colonise les landes ouvertes ou en sous-bois.
Chasse
La chasse a lieu de jour dans la végétation. On voit souvent les individus en position élevée, au dessus de la végétation herbacée, guettant leurs proies. Ces sites d'affût sont quittés périodiquement. Les proies sont approchées rapidement et saisies. Ces proies sont principalement des invertébrés présents dans ces zones, à savoir des diptères, des hyménoptères, des homoptères et des araignées, souvent plus petites que leur prédateur. En cas de danger, l'araignée est capable de sauter et de courir particulièrement vite. On attribue à ces araignées une excellente vue (« œil de lynx »), d'où leur nom générique en référence à l'argonaute Lyncée et non pas au félin.
Développement, cycle
Les adultes des deux sexes apparaissent en mai, les femelles sont présentes jusqu'en été (juillet-août). Le cycle semble annuel. La femelle pond dans la végétation un grand cocon lenticulaire blanc ou jaunâtre fixé sur des tiges, des feuilles et parfois des inflorescences. Elle reste en position sur le cocon jusqu'à l'éclosion.

The map presents a summary at the 10 x 10 km grid of the observation data for the species transmitted to the SINP. These data have been subjected to validation filters.
The map presents a reference distribution layer of the species at the scale of departments and marine sectors. The presence and absence data were established by expertise within a network of partners. This reference distribution is used in the validation process of the SINP data at the INPN level.
Corresponds to a report on the basis of at least one observation proved within a period of 10 years (20 years for little-known invertebrates) preceding the year and no presumption of extinction since obtaining the last data nor doubt on reproductive and implemented nature of this population. For migratory species, the presence indicated concerns areas of reproduction.
