Caractères distinctifs, espèces
Taille - femelle : 8-14 mm, mâle : 7-9 mm.
L'organisation oculaire est celle des araignées-loups. Le céphalothorax, avec de larges bandes latérales et une bande médiane plus claire élargie dans la partie céphalique, est caractéristique du genre Trochosa. Il existe, en France métropolitaine, cinq espèces dans le genre, possédant des biologies et des écologies différentes. Si les mâles peuvent être assez aisément identifiés au moyen de la coloration ou des bulbes copulateurs, les femelles nécessitent pour certaines de comparer les différentes dimensions des épigynes.
Milieux colonisés
L'espèce est commune au sol, en milieux secs à moyennement humides, en général assez chauds, de prairies, landes, dunes, clairières et lisières de bois.
Chasse
La chasse est effectuée par recherche visuelle puis capture directe. La période d'activité de chasse est variable suivant les stades du cycle, les jeunes sont diurnes, les femelles crépusculaires et de début de nuit.
Développement, cycle
Les femelles sont présentes toute l'année, les mâles manquent en fin d'été. Le cycle vital atteint souvent deux, parfois trois ans.
Les mâles ont une activité de recherche sexuelle diurne. Il y aurait deux périodes annuelles de pontes : l'une au printemps, l'autre en automne.
La femelle creuse pour la ponte un terrier d'environ 4 cm3. Elle ferme complètement sa loge avec de la terre, la tapisse de soie et reste cloîtrée sans manger pendant 1 mois environ. Les œufs sont enfermés dans un cocon sphérique recouvert de soie blanche. Lorsque la femelle libère les jeunes du cocon, ils montent sur son dos, où ils forment plusieurs épaisseurs. Ils y restent environ 8 jours. Ils se dispersent ensuite et mènent une vie solitaire. Il y a 200 œufs par ponte et plusieurs pontes par an.

The map presents a summary at the 10 x 10 km grid of the observation data for the species transmitted to the SINP. These data have been subjected to validation filters.
The map presents a reference distribution layer of the species at the scale of departments and marine sectors. The presence and absence data were established by expertise within a network of partners. This reference distribution is used in the validation process of the SINP data at the INPN level.
Corresponds to a report on the basis of at least one observation proved within a period of 10 years (20 years for little-known invertebrates) preceding the year and no presumption of extinction since obtaining the last data nor doubt on reproductive and implemented nature of this population. For migratory species, the presence indicated concerns areas of reproduction.
