Petite espèce strictement halophile de géophilomorphe Schendylidae, vermiforme, ayant de 37 à 41 paire de pattes. Coloration jaune pâle uniforme, la tête étant un peu plus foncée. Tergite forcipulaire trapézoïdal. Pas de champ poreux ni de fossette carpophagienne aux sternites. 2 pores par coxopleure des pattes terminales, ces dernières dépourvues de griffe apicale.
Détermination
Difficulté modérée pour l'initié s'il dispose d'un matériel optique performant (fort grossissement nécessaire, jusqu'à 100 fois). Sinon, difficile à très difficile. L'idéal est d'avoir un bon microscope.
Espèces proches
En tenant compte de son habitat particulier et de ses caractères, l'espèce sujette à confusion est principalement Schendyla peyerimhoffi Brölemann & Ribaut, 1911, puis secondairement l'ubiquiste S. nemorensis (C. L. Koch, 1837).
Période d'observation
Quasiment toute l'année.
Biologie-éthologie
La Schendyla de Monod, tout comme les autres géophilomorphes, prodigue certainement des soins assidus à ses jeunes, durant les premiers stades. Elle affectionne les sols vaseux humides et salés et les pierres en contact étroit avec celui-ci.
Biogéographie et écologie
Espèce endémique du littoral français de l'Atlantique, strictement cantonnée au schorre et à la haute slikke. Halophile à très fort enjeu de conservation, menacée en France, jugée « vulnérable » (VU) d'après la méthode Liste rouge de l'UICN.

This status is based on one or more of the following criteria:
search of species incomplete but presence of supportive environments;
ecology of the species consistent with the hypothesis of his presence;
the last reliable sighting is older than 10 years compared to the reference date, no recent specific research and no presumption of extinction from that date [vertebrates, invertebrates and plants well studied (rhopalocera, grasshoppers, dragonflies ...)] ;
the last reliable observation being older than 20 years, no recent specific research and no presumption of extinction from that date [poorly known taxa: fungus, many invertebrates...].
Probable or certain absence
This point covers the absence, more difficult by nature to demonstrate than presence. This status is based on one or more of the following criteria:
intensive but unsuccessful targeted research;
lack of adequate environments;
unobserved species while its presence is easily detected;
unlikely presence for historical or biogeographical reasons.
This status must be assigned to a department in which the presence of the species is casual.
