These data published are all Poaceae herbarium specimens collected in Madagascar and the surrounding Islands (Comoros, La Reunion, Mauritius, Seychelles, Glorioso Islands, Europa Island, Juan de Nova, Mayotte), held in Museum National d’Histoire Naturelle de Paris herbarium (MNHN). They are provided from specimens collected between 1769-2016. We take this opportunity from our BID grasses project (BID-AF2017-0103-SMA) which is funded by GBIF through the European Union, to compile data from the transcription of Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle, Paris (MNHN) specimen images. We have done the georeferencing of old specimens using webs georeferencing tools, the gazetteer of Missouri Botanical Garden (MBG) and KMCC and the georeferencing methodology of taxon observation occurrences in the standard elementary exchange data (Vest, 2016).

Project :
Title : Alien, native and endemic grasses of Madagascar
Abstract : Images of herbarium specimens were sent to Madagascar and full data transcription and georeferencing took place. Data from TAN and Dr Maria Vorontsova’s research were compiled in the grass database. A checklist of the species which are endemic , alien and/or native are extracted from the book by Jean Bosser (1969)
Funding : This project is co-funded by the European Union, GBIF and the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew

The disseminated dataset stems from an automatic treatment applied to data coming from GBIF. INPN rules, and more generally SINP rules (in terms of perimeter and data quality controls) may imply that the whole of the source dataset might not be provided on the SINP platform.
