The Lichenotheca of the VIT herbarium currently contains 2020 specimens, to which must be added 463 more specimens contained in the historical herbarium of José María Lacoizqueta (Heras Pérez & Infante Sánchez, 2021). In total, it houses around 2483 specimens.
The current Lichenotheca began in 1978 with the collections made by Patxi Heras. Over the last more than 40 years, several collectors have contributed specimens, the most important contribution being that of Javier Etayo (Pamplona, Navarra, Spain). The best represented areas are the Basque Country and Navarre, although there are specimens from other areas of Spain, France, Equatorial Guinea and Venezuela among other countries.
The collection is fully computerised. The dataset included here consists of 2408 records including 778 taxa.
