41.1 - Beech forests

Description

Forests dominated by Fagus sylvatica in western and central Europe, by Fagus orientalis, Fagus moesiaca, Fagus taurica in southeastern Europe and the Near East, by Fagus crenata, Fagus multinervis, Fagus japonica in the Far East. Many montane formations are beech-fir or beech-fir-spruce forests, to be noted as unit 43 (mixed forests), but with the suffixes below; they are discussed with the corresponding deciduous forest.
