43 - Temperate mixed forests

Classification des habitats du Paléarctique (2001)

Description

Forest and woodland of mixed deciduous and coniferous trees of the nemoral, boreal, Irano-Turanian, warm-temperate humid and mediterranean zones, mostly characteristic of the boreonemoral transition zone between taiga and temperate lowland deciduous forests, and of the montane level of the major mountain ranges of the southern Palaearctic. Included are communities of combined deciduous and conifer composition in which both constituants contribute substantially to the dominant layer. Deciduous forests with a dominated stratum of conifers or with a small admixture of conifers in the dominant layer are included in unit 41. Conifer forests with a dominated stratum of deciduous trees or with a small admixture of deciduous trees in the dominant layer are included in unit 42. Mixed coniferous and broad-leaved evergreen woodland is not included under unit 43, but listed under unit 42 or unit 45, depending on dominance.
