Descriptif officiel

Upper estuarine mixed hard substrata colonised by very sparse communities of animals with low species richness and with a few seaweeds in very shallow water. In the Tamar estuary the hydroid Hartlaubella gelatinosa and bryozoan Conopeum reticulum are found on stones. In the River Dart the bryozoan Bowerbankia imbricata is most abundant. The mussel Mytilus edulis, the crab Carcinus maenas and the hydroid Obelia dichotoma can be present. A similar brackish-water rocky biotope is recorded from the Bann Estuary, Northern Ireland. There are considerable differences in species composition between sites, but all occur in brackish turbid-water conditions. More information required to validate this description.

Descriptif en français

Substrat dur hétérogène, en eau très peu profonde dans la partie amont d’un estuaire, colonisé par une faune très clairsemée pauvre en espèces et par quelques algues. Dans l’estuaire du fleuve Tamar, on trouve l’hydraire Hartlaubella gelatinosa et le bryozoaire Conopeum reticulum sur des pierres. Dans le fleuve Dart, le bryozoaire Bowerbankia imbricata est très abondant. La moule Mytilus edulis, le crabe Carcinus maenas et l’hydraire Obelia dichotoma peuvent être présents. Un habitat rocheux semblable d’eau saumâtre a été observé dans l’estuaire du fleuve Bann, en Irlande du Nord. La composition spécifique varie considérablement d’un endroit à l’autre, mais l’eau est toujours saumâtre et turbide. Il faudrait davantage de données pour valider cette description.
