Descriptif officiel

Mixed muddy gravel and sand often in tide-swept narrows in the entrances or sills of sealochs with beds or 'nests' of Limaria hians. The Limaria form woven 'nests' or galleries from byssus and fragments of seaweeds so that the animals themselves cannot be seen from above the seabed. Modiolus modiolus sometimes occur at the same sites lying over the top of the Limaria bed. Other fauna associated with this biotope include echinoderms (Ophiothrix fragilis, Ophiocomina nigra and Asterias rubens), Buccinum undatum, mobile crustaceans (e.g. Pagurus bernhardus), Alcyonium digitatum and hydroids such as Plumularia setacea, Kirchenpaueria pinnata and Nemertesia spp. Sometimes red seaweeds such as Phycodrys rubens occur if the beds are in shallow enough water.

Descriptif en français

Gravier vaseux et sable vaseux, souvent dans des goulets soumis aux courants de marée d’entrées ou des rebords peu profonds de bras de mer, avec des bancs ou « nids » de Limaria hians. Limaria forme des « nids » ou galeries à partir de son byssus et de fragments d’algues, de sorte que l’animal lui‐même n’est pas visible du dessus. Modiolus modiolus est parfois présente sur le banc de Limaria. Les autres espèces animales associées à cet habitat comprennent des échinodermes (Ophiothrix fragilis, Ophiocomina nigra et Asterias rubens), Buccinum undatum, des crustacés mobiles (par exemple Pagurus bernhardus), Alcyonium digitatum et des hydraires tels que Plumularia setacea, Kirchenpaueria pinnata et Nemertesia spp. Parfois, des algues rouges telles que Phycodrys rubens sont présentes si les bancs de Limaria sont en eau suffisamment peu profonde.
