Description

Supra-Mediterranean dwarf-shrub formations of the Iberian Meseta, its surrounding mountains, northern Spain and southern France, dominated by labiate shrubs or subshrubs of genera Thymus (Thymus serpolifolium, Thymus vulgaris, Thymus loscosii, Thymus mastigophorus), Teucrium (Teucrium aureum, Teucrium aragonense, Teucrium gnaphalodes, Teucrium polium), Salvia (Salvia lavandulifolia, Salvia phlomoides), Satureja (Satureja montana), Sideritis (Sideritis incana), Lavandula (Lavandula angustifolia, Lavandula lanata, Lavandula latifolia), often constituting a species-rich assemblage, but, mostly in the north, sometimes limited to one or a few species of Thymus; associated shrubs often include greenweeds (Genista spp.).
