ROS - Ononido-Rosmarinetea Br.-Bl. in A. Bolòs y Vayreda 1950

Classification phytosociologique européenne (Eurovegchecklist, 2016)

Diagnose

Mediterranean scrub (tomillar, espleguer, romeral, garrigue, phrygana, batha) on base-rich substrates

Remarques

ros01 : The geographic-ecological asymmetry (two classes in the Western Mediterranean vs one class in the Eastern Mediterranean) is not acceptable and could lead either to the description of yet another class (on siliceous substrates) in the Eastern Mediterranean, or the dissolution of the Cisto-Micromerietea into the Rosmarinetea and Cisto-Lavanduletea. We suggest that Barbero & Quézel's (1989) claim that it would not be possible to distinguish two different classes (based on geochemistry of soil controlling two different species pools) in the Eastern Mediterranean could be due to the poor data then (in 1989) at their disposal. .
