Descriptif officiel

Shallow sublittoral muds, extending from the extreme lower shore to about 15-20 m depth in fully marine or near marine conditions, predominantly in extremely sheltered areas with very weak tidal currents. Such habitats are found in sealochs and some rias and harbours. Populations of the lugworm Arenicola marina may be dense, with anemones, the opisthobranch Philine aperta and synaptid holothurians also characteristic in some areas. The extent of the oxidised layer may be shallow with some areas being periodically or permanently anoxic. In these areas bacterial mats may develop on the sediment surface. Infaunal records for this habitat type are limited encompassing only one biotope. They are therefore not representative of the full suite of infaunal species found in this biotope.

Vase subtidale en eau peu profonde, surtout dans des zones extrêmement abritées avec des courants de marée très faibles, de l’extrême limite inférieure du rivage jusqu’à une profondeur de 15 à 20 m, en eaux marines ou semi‐marines. De tels milieux sont situés dans des bras de mer, ainsi que certains rias et ports. Les populations d’arénicole Arenicola marina peuvent être denses. Les anémones, l’opisthobranche Philine aperta et des holothurides synaptidés sont également caractéristiques dans certaines zones. La couche oxydée peut être peu profonde, et certaines parties peuvent être périodiquement ou en permanence anoxiques. Dans ces zones, des tapis de bactéries peuvent se développer sur la surface des sédiments. Les observations de l’endofaune de cet habitat sont limitées puisqu’elles ne portent que sur un seul sous‐habitat. Elles ne sont donc pas représentatives de l’ensemble des espèces constituant l’endofaune de cet habitat.
