Description

Transition mire communities of boreal and western nemoral regions of the Palaearctic domaine dominated by Carex rostrata or, in western Siberia, Carex rotundata, on sphagnum or, sometimes, pleurocarp carpets, usually constituting sparse low formations. They extend south, in the mountains of the southern Palaearctic, to the Caucasus.
