Description

Waters beyond the continental shelf. In the Palaearctic region they occupy the greatest part of the Arctic, Atlantic and Pacific oceans, of the Barents Sea, the Sea of Okhotsk, the Sea of Japan, the Arabian Sea, the Mediterranean Sea, the Ligurian Sea, the Tyrrhenian Sea, the Ionian Sea, as well as the central part of the Aegean Sea, the Red Sea, the Black Sea, the southern Adriatic Sea, the eastern part of the northern North Sea, the southern Bering Sea. They are absent from the Baltic Sea.
