Species observation data - Occurrences

An occurrence datum is the observation of a taxon (species, subspecies…), at a given place and date, with its observers, through direct (visual) or indirect (prints, dejections, nests…) observation means. This includes inventory data, with or without protocol, as well as temporal monitoring and any other study involving the recording of the presence or absence of a species or a species community.

The occurrence datum sets itself apart of overview data by its unitary characteristic. In the case of an occurrence, an observation is reflected in a datum, where overview data is data aggregation, where each datum stems from several observations (example: list of species observed in a county).
